poppyseed cheese biscuits.

Exactly what you need if you've overindulged on the sweet stuff. Makes about 30 biscuits.

100g butter, at room temperature
100g finely grated cheddar cheese
150g plain flour
25g poppy seeds
pinch of salt.

Mix together the butter and cheese. Add the flour, poppy seeds and salt mixing to form a firm dough. Roll into a log shape about 5cm in diameter and wrap in cling-film. Place in the frisge for one hour to firm up. Pre-heat the oven to 180C (160C on fan) or gas mark 4.

The chilled log can now be cut into slices (about ½ cm thick) and placed onto baking sheets lined with greaseproof paper. Bake for 12-15minutes until lightly golden.

Place in a cookie jar or lined gift box and finish with a ribbon and matching gift tag.

Top tip.
Sesame seeds are a good alternative to poppy seeds.
