hoisin sauce

- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp black bean paste
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 2 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- a few drops of tabasco (to taste)
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1/8 tsp ground szechwan peppercorn
I'm a bit worried about a couple of ingredients in this recipe: the garlic powder and the Tabasco, neither of which is usually found in recipes for Chinese food. Did this recipe originate in the USA, by any chance?
